Default So I didn't pay for a mission run...

I didn't pay for this mission run because the runner failed miserbly. Died at least 5 times when he promised a fast run in which he would not die once. He tried to blame all of us for his failure because he said our team chat distracted him, lol. I left the mission early because I told him I wouldn't put up with this crap, and that I only pay and stay around for pro runners and runners who keep their promise of no deaths and quick runs.

About 10 minutes later he PMs me saying he is reporting me and another guy for not paying. Am I the only one who thinks that is just silly? *awaits his ban*

My actual question here is whether or not Anet bans you for not paying a runner. They don't ban people who trade scam, their stance seems to be "if you both click accept, it is your problem." I would support a suspension of a real scammer, but I think I had the right to bail from a group with a bad runner who could not deliver.

Yep. You get your account deleted.

Also, expect police with rifles at the ready, bashing down your doors and taking you to jail, where you will spend the rest of your life thinking about how to aquire more toilet paper.

I've never heard of anyone being banned for not paying for a run, lord knows enough people have done it to me. If he never completed the run for you, you have no reason to pay. Finally, I would never pay for a run where you require extensive help from your customers i.e. more than meatshielding on a droks run.

He's only trying to scare you into paying him.

I figured it was a dumb scare tactic. I hadn't planned to pay after he failed us, regardless of whether or not I would get a suspension. Just another jackass kid who wanted plat for nothing.

when you report a scammer u need:

names of players who were there
screen shot (optional)
time and zone

ANET actually "rewinds" and looks at chats/leaves/lags, so they will see the situation and np for you, cuz he oviously couldnt finish the run with 60 dp (right? 60?) if he failed with 0... and plz! team chat distracted him? he;s there to run, not read chats

Default this has been previously discussed

Anet has officially stated that they will hardly if ever deal with in game runners. Since it requires a lot of work to look into the problem of scamming on runs as such they decided to work less on running scams and more on exploits and trade scamming as well as botting. I have rarely ever heard of someone ever being banned for scamming for a run being a fairly known runner in game. Also concerning people who never get banned for trying to trade scam.....there are lots of people who get banned for that. (tries to trade family sigil and says its a celestial sigil for buying a guild hall)

Also concerning the problem with the runner......obviously if he failed in his job you shouldn't have to pay him simple as that. Many a times people say they report and they dont report....as stated previously its just a scare tactic. Plus there are sooo many runners now it would be fairly easy to find a professional who knows what he is doing and does it well. Hope this helps

I had a "runner" from Droks to War camp, he died a silly amount of times and we kept having to start the alst area over and over, in the end it wasnt even him that made it thru the gate, but somebody else.

I didt pay up because 1) He was dead when the party arrived at its destination.
2) He had to be rezed several times
3) at level 14 i was closer to the gate in the end.

He said he reported me, and if he did nothing has come of it.

If i had scammed him and he ahd ran alright he'd need screens of not only me refusing to pay, but also of the part where we agreed a price, and i bet most people forget that part.

Remember; When someone claims to be a pro runner, and dies 5 times, you should leave before the run ends. If you stay until he finishes the job, not paying would be a scam.
When you don't want to pay, bail out before the run is completed. And I don't mean seconds before the end gate.
When he wants you to pay, while he didn't finish the run, he is the scammer. My best bet is that either he didn't report you, or that he will be punished himself for trying to scam you

Nothing to fear. He didn't deliver on a promise. You don't have to pay.

I don't think GW bans in case of runners.

Who scams who really depends on what was agreed on and what was the runner advertising. When he says "pro runner 100% arrival garantee," does that mean runner will arrive after dying several times or will arrive without dying? I think the customer either should either leave the party before the runner arrives if he is disatisfied with the service, or demand a discount.

I had Elona mission ran for me and the runner died. We had to go an res him so he could continue running, while another player went to try get the 2nd crystal (who died but brought the crystal closer). I demanded a discount and got it.

if he didn't finish the run u don't have any obligation to pay him and if he was that bad, i would have left before the run was over. because if he doesn't delvier on the goods, he doesn't desverse payment.
but however if he got u to were u wanted him to take u, how ever bad the run was i personally would pay him.

I make sure to clearly lay down the rules before my runs, and everyone must agree before the run starts. If people try to rush me to gogogogogogo, I usually kick them from the group.

It usually works, but not always.

I had a run last week when a guy kept following me when I specifically stated that I run solo and to please not follow me. He got me killed by pulling aggro to me at a healing point, but rezed me and it was all good after that. I gave the guy a discount, even though the death wasn't really my fault.

I was bored so I tried to my mes up to ice tooth caves, with some warrior (who wasn't even level 15) running me. He toldme to go be his meat shield, so I ended up running in front of him the whole time, and after he got his ass kicked by the stupid aggro he kept drawing by his mistakes, I had to complete my own run. Later, I learned that he was actually on marijuana when he tried the run. I didn't pay him, because, well, I pretty much ran myself, with him as a hindrance. There was also a runner to forge who specifically advertised not having to pay if he died, and he died after snake dance. We had already payed him at snake dance, but we didn't pay him at Rankor, and he went off on us for about 15 minutes straight. I got him to stp after traveling to the 3 major cities and yelling "*name ommiteed* is giving away free ectos if you pm him 3 times in a row" but before i did that he was making some serious threats. But he died, and he kept his money that he earned for the first half. Luckily we managed to make it to Rankor and find another runner. Blah.

I hope Arena.net doesn't give any attention whatsoever to run scams or any scams for that matter. If people are stupid enough to fall for these "scams" then that's their problem. I just hope they don't actually pay people to cater to those with a lack of good judgement.

Getting scammed in-game is the same as getting scammed in real life. If you give a stranger $20 to mow your lawn, and he never shows up, you're the stupid one who gave away $20 to a stranger. If you wanted your lawn mowed, you should've gone to a professional service. At least if they rip you off, you have avenues of protection, and written contracts and receipts to back you up.

I only use services provided by people on these forums. At the very least, if they don't deliver on their promises, the forums act as a "Better Business Bureau" that you can go ahead and make your grievances known to. If you need a runner, check out the "Services" trade folder...the people who post there are well known "professionals" who'll get the job done and care enough about what their reputation to not want to rip you off.

A nice thought, except for a few problems:

1. You can't put people's names on these forums, so anyone scamming you from here would never be reported here.

2. The runners in the services section here tend to be very expensive and will not necessarily be on when you are.

3. There is no such thing as a professional service in this game. The only advertising you can do it screaming in a district, and no one can really make anyone else believe that someone is a scammer (your word against theirs)
